Charity Presentations

Thank you for attending this event to honor the recipients of the 24th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee’s funds.
I am Deb Drummet, the 2011 Co Chair of the parade and surrounding events. It has been a great pleasure to
work with three deserving organizations over the past 8 months.

In the past 24 years, the parade committee has provided funding for 36 non profit agencies in the County.
We have donated over ½ million dollars to assist thousands of children. This year, we are very excited to present our monies to Junior Achievement,
Cooper’s Cause and Imagine Drop In Child Care Center. The parade committee has the potential to reach over 4000 children this year and we
are very pleased that we can help to that extent.
Without further ado, I would like to present $22,000.00 each to Junior Achievement, Cooper’s Cause and Imagine Drop In Child Care Center.
This $66,000.00 donation is the largest that the parade committee has presented, and we are very excited that, in this economy,
Douglas County’s businesses and individuals are still supportive of the deserving non-profits and the work that the Parade committee does.
The Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee is comprised of approximately 100 volunteer members of the community who work tirelessly year round
to plan and execute over a dozen events geared to raising awareness and monies for our recipients. The mission of our organization is to
honor Irish Americans and their contributions to America and to celebrate the legend and spirit of St. Patrick through a fun, good old-fashioned parade.
We also promote an atmosphere of benevolence, friendship and cooperation through the parade and other associated events, and we support and
exemplify the idea that charity and goodwill begin at home, benefiting your friends, neighbors and the Lawrence community.
The Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee is also excited to announce that we have already began to plan our 25th annual parade,
which will be held on Saturday, March 17th, 2012. This will be a huge event, with committee members contacting all of our past dignitaries
and entries to make this parade the largest yet.
The parade committee wishes to thank our 2011 Queen Lacey Henry and Queen candidates Erin Taylor and Katie Keeler for their efforts and
hard work in making this the most successful fundraising year ever. We also wish to thank the City of Lawrence and the
Lawrence Police Dept for their support, Lawrence Parks and Rec for the chalk line, (which worked, it really worked)!,
US Bank for the judging area,
Knology for the parade coverage, Hank Booth for his golden voice, Father John Schmeideler
for the parade blessing from St. Patrick, Liberty Hall for the TV staging area and the Journal World for their print and online coverage.
But most of all, the parade committee would like to thank the citizens, businesses and organizations in Douglas County who continue
to give us much needed support. Without your support, we would not be able to help the thousands that we have.
We hope to see all of you in 2012 for our 25th annual Parade. The silver anniversary events will be co chaired by
Gene Shaughnessy and Roger Browning. It will be a momentous event.
